America's Test Kitchen cookie swap party
Holiday Cookie Swap 2022

Saturday, December 3 – 3:00pm

Since last year’s cookie swap was such a success, we decided to do it again. What’s not to love about making one batch of cookies and ending up with 18 different kinds of cookies! We used the America’s Test Kitchen website as the source for our cookie recipes.

While in theory people could snag one of each cookie and head out, almost everyone stayed to mingle and snack. There were plenty of cookies to nibble while at the event and still bring a boatload of cookies home once you reached maximum sugar capacity!

The Menu

Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies - Kamy

Kamy made Perfect Chocolate Chip Cookies. The chocolate chip cookie is one of my favorite kinds of cookie, and this one was fine but I definitely wouldn’t say it was “perfect”… I’ve definitely had others that I like better.

Millionaire's Shortbread - Anthony

Anthony made Millionaire’s Shortbread. I think this was my favorite cookie of all the ones at this cookie swap. Buttery shortbread, chewy caramel, chocolate with a sprinkle of salt… such a wonderful combination!

Greek Butter Cookies - Rayann

Rayann made Greek Butter Cookies. Usually when I see cookie balls coated in powdered sugar I’m not super excited, but I have to say I really enjoyed these. Buttery and not overly sweet despite the coating.

Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies - Laura C.

Laura C. made Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies. I love peanut butter and I love cookies, but I tend to find peanut butter cookies less than satisfying. These, however, were really tasty. The chewiness and the peanut pieces made them some of the best peanut butter cookies I’ve had.

S'mores Blossom Cookies - Acacia

Acacia made S’mores Blossom Cookies. They are so cute, and despite the fact that I am not a big fan of s’mores (perhaps because I don’t really like marshmallows), I was pleasantly surprised to find myself enjoying the taste of these cookies as well.

Dulce De Leche Cinnamon Cookies - Prisca

Prisca made Dulce De Leche Cinnamon Cookies. I liked these ok, but couldn’t help comparing them to alfajores, which are my absolute favorite cookies with dulce de leche.

Brigadeiros - Alana

I made Brigadeiros. I was concerned these Brazilian chocolate balls would be way too sweet, as they’re pretty much just sweetened condensed milk, cacao, and butter, coated in sprinkles. But they were actually pretty good, and Heather’s daughter loved them so they’re definitely kid approved.

Chocolate Butter Cookies with Glaze - Heather

Heather made Chocolate Butter Cookies with Glaze. As always her presentation was on point, with beautifully decorated cookies plus an edible frame of apple cotton candy snow! The recipe included a bunch of glazes – she chose to do orange liqueur glaze for the stars and gingerbread men, and peppermint glaze for the trees and candy canes. Both were yummy.

Snickerdoodles - Roger

Roger made Snickerdoodles. This was a good rendition of a traditional snickerdoodle. Perfect amount of chewiness and cinnamon goodness, but not too sweet.

Soft & Chewy Gingerbread Cookies - Kim

Kim made Soft & Chewy Gingerbread Cookies. She did such a great job decorating them – beautiful snowflakes and adorable snowmen! I’m not really a fan of gingerbread, so you might have to ignore my bias and try making these for yourself.

Almond Crescent Cookies - Tara

Tara made Almond Crescent Cookies. She thought they didn’t come out looking the best, but I loved these. The almond flavor really came through, and I was happy to take several home since she said there were plenty.

Chocolate Turtle Cookies - Jody

Jody made Chocolate Turtle Cookies. I was so excited to try these, and they tasted as good as they looked. The dollop of caramel, chocolate cookie, and coating of nuts made for a nice flavor combo and varied texture.

Anise Biscotti - Jeff

Jeff made Anise Biscotti. In my opinion biscotti should be eaten with a hot beverage. So I had a little nibble at the party and brought the rest of my biscotti home to eat with hot tea. A delicious choice that I believe was the right decision!

Sesame Seed Tahini Cookies - Laura W.

Laura W. made Sesame Seed Tahini Cookies. These don’t look like much, but they were terrific. The sesame flavor was a nice departure from what I think of as typical cookies.

Chewy Oatmeal Cookies - Lisa

Lisa made Chewy Oatmeal Cookies. I love granola, but somehow have never been able to get into oatmeal cookies. Raisins aren’t really my favorite thing either. So I’m not the best judge on this one.

Berry Cobbler Cookie - Chris

Chris made Berry Cobbler Cookies. Feeling confused because you don’t see any berry? That’s because he had a jam-making fail. Also apparently this recipe is from a popular cookie store, not America’s Test Kitchen. So double fail haha 😉 Nevertheless, I have to say that even with just the cream cheese frosting, this was a terrific cookie.

Nutella Cookies - Sabrina

Sabrina made Nutella Cookies. I was looking forward to tasting these, as I am a Nutella fan and imagined them like a chocolate chip cookie but even better. They were good, but didn’t quite live up to my fantasies.

Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies - Carla

Carla made Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies. Considering that as noted earlier I am never very excited for an oatmeal cookie, these were pretty good. Maybe it’s the raisins that usually put me off, because I liked the chocolate and the texture that the oats provided.

The Verdict

As I suppose is to be expected when you have 18 different kinds of cookies, I felt that our America’s Test Kitchen cookie swap was a bit hit and miss. Some cookies that I intend to seek out the recipe for, some not so memorable, and some I wouldn’t eat again. But I also have my cookie biases, and it probably doesn’t help that we were eating so many cookies all at once and going into sugar overload. Not that I’m complaining about going home with a variety tray of cookies!
